I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) www.imsg.com is currently seeking to hire an Environmental Education Coordinator to work at the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office (NCBO) field office located at the Cooperative Oxford Lab in Oxford, MD. This is a 6 month position with a possible extension.
The NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office\\\'s mission is in focusing NOAA\\\'s capabilities in science, service, and stewardship to protect and restore the Chesapeake Bay. NCBO is charged with monitoring the status and reporting the results of sponsored research on non-invasive oysters and other scientific topics conducted by other institutions including state and local governments. The qualified candidate will be involved in fulfilling the goals of the NCBO mission to include providing science-based information and tools required to facilitate ecosystem approaches to management and stewardship; enhancing implementation of ecosystem-based management through improved coordination and assistance and targeted protection and restoration; and fostering ecosystem stewardship through increased environmental awareness, knowledge, and literacy in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
Duties:
· Provide program coordination and site management support for the Environmental Science Training Center (ESTC)
· Create and evaluate trainings targeting environmental education professionals
· Coordinate onsite and virtual seminars that feature NOAA scientists discussing topics relevant and timely to environmental education professionals and also evaluate the effectiveness of these seminars
· Encourage environmental education organizations to include NOAA content in staff trainings and support these efforts by providing content, speakers, or other appropriate services
· Coordinate with the Blue Planet lecture series to conduct evening seminar series on NOAA research, products, and services with a focus on the Chesapeake Bay for educators and community members
· Maintain knowledge and awareness of emerging NOAA research and products for inclusion in the Environmental Science Training Center (ESTC) programming
· Coordinate with NOAA staff in Virginia to ensure similar trainings occurring at the Virginia Institute for Marine Sciences
· Maintain and support partnerships that support environmental literacy activities in the Chesapeake Bay, including B-WET partnerships
· Administer NOAA B-WET awards, including award processing and monitoring, site visits, and technical assistance to grantees
· Ensure Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) representatives are aware of and engaged in ESTC activities. This includes coordination with onsite MSDE Eastern Shore coordinator
· Work with COSEE to support the development of STEM centers and dissemination of STEM curriculum in the Chesapeake Bay region
· Increase the awareness of Delaware constituents (in the Chesapeake Bay watershed) about the B-WET Program Develop priority products as identified by NCBO Environmental Literacy Program to increase understanding and/or use of NOAA data, information, and programs
· Develop content to enhance Chesapeake Exploration and the Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoy System, including hands-on explorations
· Conduct trainings designed to increase classroom use of student built buoys and remotely operated vehicles for scientific inquiry
· Coordinate with NERRS, National Geographic, and CBF to conduct Chesapeake Exploration trainings to increase usage of the website |
| Requirements: |
Qualifications:
· Strong presentation and written and verbal communications skills are required
· Experience in environmental education program development and management highly desirable
· Master\\\'s Degree is highly desirable
· Grants experience is desirable
· Experience designing programs to use data in the classroom is desirable
· Prior experience working with NOAA or other government office is desirable |
